Description

Yacht leather is the material trimmers reach for when a job needs to look factory-finished rather than home-made. It is a leather-look upholstery fabric with a deep black surface, supplied off the roll at 1.55m wide and cut to whatever length you order — a single metre for a pair of door cards, or twenty for a full van or boat interior.

There are four finishes to choose between. The diamond quilted versions arrive with the stitched pattern already worked into the material and foam bonded behind it, so the padding and the pattern come as one piece and your job is simply cutting and sewing panels. The plain versions give you the same surface without the quilting, either foam backed at 4mm or as a thin 0.8mm skin for areas where bulk would get in the way.

Key Benefits

  • Buy only what the job needs — length is cut to order, so a small trim repair does not mean paying for a full roll
  • The quilting and the padding come pre-bonded, which removes the separate foam-laying stage from the build
  • 1.55m width covers most seat backs and bases in a single piece, reducing the number of joins
  • Four finishes from one material family, so quilted seat facings and plain panels can be matched across an interior
  • Works with the tools already in a trim shop — no specialist machinery needed

Features

  • Leather-look surface with a consistent black finish
  • Diamond quilted pattern with black stitching
  • Perforated diamond quilted option for a vented appearance
  • Plain, unquilted option in both foam backed and non-foam thicknesses
  • Foam backing bonded to the reverse on the 4mm options
  • Hard-wearing construction suited to seating and high-contact panels
  • Cuts cleanly and takes a stitch without specialist preparation

  • Dashboard trims and pillar covers
  • Motorcycle seats
  • Boat and yacht seating and cabin trim
  • Campervan and motorhome conversions — seating, bed boards and side panels
  • Furniture upholstery, headboards and bench seating
  • Speaker boxes and custom audio installs

Choosing Between the Options

The 4mm foam-backed finishes are the ones to use anywhere the panel is sat on, leant against or handled — seat bases, seat backs, armrests and bed boards. The foam gives the surface something to compress into, which is what produces the rounded, upholstered look rather than material stretched flat over board.

The 0.8mm plain option is the one to reach for where thickness works against you: tight radius curves, door card returns, areas that have to sit behind a trim clip, or anywhere the panel needs to go back into its original aperture without fouling.

What You Receive

  • One cut length of yacht leather upholstery fabric in the finish and length selected

Order more than one metre and the material is supplied as a single continuous length wherever possible, rather than several shorter pieces.

Working With the Material

Standard upholstery practice applies. Mark and cut from the reverse to keep the face clean, allow for seam and pull-in when patterning, and dry-fit panels before committing to a final stitch line. On the quilted finishes, plan your cut so the diamond pattern runs square with the panel and lines up across any joins — the pattern is the first thing the eye reads on a finished seat, and a pattern running off-square is difficult to disguise afterwards.

The foam-backed options need a slightly longer stitch length than the 0.8mm material to allow for the compression through the backing.

Please Note

  • Select your required finish from the drop-down menu before ordering
  • Screen settings vary, so the black shown on your display may differ slightly from the material
  • Multiple metres are supplied as one continuous length wherever possible
